Have you ever wanted to write music? Well, you've got to start somewhere! Join us this summer for the Teen Songwriters Series to make your musical debut. The first session will be about writing lyrics on July 11th @ 2pm in the Teen Space. If you missed out, you can look at some PowerPoint slides that will help you get started.
And you can always visit Mel or Erik for more resources, including a couple of handouts and graphic organizers!
The next session will be on July 25th @ 2pm in the auditorium, and will focus on making basic chord progressions that are the backbone of most popular songs. We will use some keyboards, the auditorium piano, and a couple of guitars to do so. Feel free to bring your own instruments if that makes you more comfortable! And don't forget to register for this session by calling the Teen Space on extension 301. We will use the following slides as a starting point.
Finally, we will conclude the Songwriters Series on August 8th @ 2pm in the Teen Space, where we will learn the basics of using GarageBand on the library iPads. This is how you produce other musical elements to incorporate into your basic chord progression(s) and melody.
Each of these installments are meant to be an introduction to the basics of songwriting! If you have already dipped your toe in to the world of music writing, please bring your experiences and musical knowledge with you to share with the group.
And don't forget... Libraries Rock!
