9/11 YA Reads

Fri, 09/11/2020 - 11:26am -- seclark

It is hard to believe it 19 years have passed since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Many people reflect on where they were and what they felt that tragic day. However many young adults were either not born yet or were too young to understand the significance of the event. Reading about this day is a great way to gain an understanding of how it changed life for millions of people. Check out the titles below available on OverDrive.

Suicide Awareness Month

Tue, 09/08/2020 - 2:16pm -- seclark

Hey Teens did you know that September is Suicide Awareness Month? Coming up on Thursday, September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day. All month long people are bringing awareness to themselves and others. There are many YA books that deal with mental illness, trauma and healing. Many resources are available to educate and relate to other people's experiences. Below are some informational resources and YA reads on the topic. My favorite is All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven.

Hey Teens and Happy September! This month we celebrate Library Card Sign-up in response to the Secretary of Education, William Bennet who stated "Let's have a campaign...Every child should obtain a library card and use it." Check out the American Library Association Archives for more information on how it began. While we would rather have you here in person, there are still ways to sign up for and utilize a library card online.
