The library will open at 1 PM on Wednesday, December 4th for Staff Development.
AARP has officially accepted the Age Friendly Westerly Action Plan for becoming more age-friendly under the criteria established by AARP.
Volunteers with Age Friendly Westerly, a group supported by Age Friendly RI and facilitated by Yale New Haven Health Office of Health Equity & Community Impact (OHECI), have been working diligently throughout this year to develop this Plan. The Plan - created by volunteers with Age Friendly Westerly, in collaboration with Yale New Haven Health and members of our public - is one of the milestones achieved as a member of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities program. The Town of Westerly joined the AARP Network in 2021 and committed to a multi-year, multi-phase process to make the community inclusive and welcoming and a place for all ages.
A recognition event, open to all, will be held in the Old Main Meeting Room, Westerly Library & Wilcox Park, 44 Broad Street, Westerly. Light refreshments will be served. Invited guests include Shawn Lacey, Westerly Town Manager, Catherine Taylor, AARP Rhode Island State Director, Jim Connell, Age Friendly Rhode Island, Richard Lisitano, Westerly Hospital President, Caroline Dillon, Executive Director of The Village Common and other local dignitaries including the Westerly Town Council.
We hope to see you on December 5th to share more about this plan and how it will benefit our community!
