Columbus: From Quarry to the Park traces the history and production of the Columbus statue in Wilcox Park. It celebrates the Westerly granite industry, the skill of the artisans involved, and the proud Italian heritage which made the statue possible. Beginning in the 1890's when an idea began to circulate, to the formation of a formal Columbus committee in 1939, to the awarding of a contract to the Joseph Coduri Granite Company in 1948, to the statue's dedication in 1949 and subsequent relocation, thousands of Westerly residents were involved in one way or another.
