Dante Society Lecture and Book Signing with Zachary Garceau

Please join us for a discussion and book signing of Great Stories from Westerly's Past with author Zachary Garceau, presented by Dante Society of Westerly! The discussion will take place in the library's Auditorium on the second floor.

Zack will present a history of Italian-American charitable, social and cultural societies in Westerly, focusing on those formed before 1940 including:

• Dante Fund (predecessor to the Dante Society) (formed in 1934)

• Italo-American Civic Club (formed in May 1915)

• Daughters of Italy (formed in 1925)

• Italian Welfare Club (formed in 1926)

• Calabrese Club (formed in 1918)

Zachary Garceau is a local historian and the archivist of the Westerly Historical Society. His work has been published in many magazines and journals as well as in his first book, Great Stories from Westerly's Past. Like many in Westerly, his ancestors came from Acri, Calabria as well as Viggiu in the province of Varese.
