Please join the Dante Society of Westerly and Prof. La Luna who will discuss "Italian at URI", including signature programs such as International Engineering, International Business, International Computer Science, International Pharmaceutical Sciences, International Fashion, and International Studies and Diplomacy etc. He will also talk about his translation of Carmine Abate's, Il Ballo Tondo, a novel that speaks about a small town in Calabria of Albanian origin. Prof. La Luna will also present a documentary made in Westerly looking at Italian American family traditions, filmed about 10 years ago with some students from University of Calabria and URI.

About the presenter:

MICHELANGELO LA LUNA is Professor of Italian language and literature at the University of Rhode Island, and Director of the Italian International Engineering, Business, Computer Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences Programs.

After completing his degree in Classical Literature from the University of Calabria (1991), the scholar moved to the United States, where he studied and taught first at the University of Pittsburgh, and then at Harvard University, an Athenaeum at which he received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures.

Prof. La Luna is the author of books, translations and articles on Carmine Abate, Falso Boccaccio, Dante Alighieri, Luigi Capuana, Angelo De Gubernatis, Girolamo De Rada, Dacia Maraini, Domenico Mauro, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Niccolò Tommaseo and Giovanni Verga.
