The library will be closed Tuesday, December 24th for Christmas Eve, and Wednesday, December 25th for Christmas Day.
We invite you to join us and Michael Dotolo for yoga in Wilcox Park on Fridays at 10:00am! We will be meeting on the back side of the pond.
About the class:
Sum Yoga is a more traditional practice of hatha yoga designed to sum up the actions of posture, breathing, and concentration. In this class, participants will engage in a slower flow of movements or asana, allowing them to develop a sense of anatomical alignment. This approach is developed through online and hybrid course that are currently being developed on http://sum.yoga. Participants will also become familiar with various breathing techniques which will allow them to further understand the connection between breath control and cognitive/emotional activity. The goal is to develop mindfulness through direct efforts of physical and mental challenges. All levels welcome.
About Michael Dotolo:
Michael Dotolo is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with a Registered Yoga School (RYS). His instruction focuses on breath and alignment found in the lineage of a more traditional Hatha practice. In 2001, he began practicing an alignment-based vinyasa yoga in Brooklyn, NY. There, he was introduced to the notion that achieving a pose requires breath control. A more dedicating approach to yoga emerged while living in India for seven years. There, Michael had the opportunity to understand yoga as an expression of culture. His formal teacher-training took place at the Yoga Institute in Mumbai, where yoga is taught as a holistic approach to physical and mental well-being through the simplified hatha techniques developed by the ashram founder, Shri Yogendra. After completing his formal training, Michael studied hatha with a multi-generational practitioner for almost two year while living in Delhi. The course of these studies included developing techniques of pranayama and trataka. Supplemental education also came through participation in various workshops in India and Nepal.
