The Westerly Anti-Racism Coalition presents Conversations About African American Art: Talks with Artists and Collectors, three presentations on consecutive Saturday afternoons in February 2024 hosted by the Westerly Library & Wilcox Park, and sponsored by the Washington Trust Foundation. These presentations are designed to encourage conversations addressing ARC’s mission of embracing multiculturalism to address racism to educate, engage, and empower our community in its journey to equity, inclusion, and belonging for all.
Today's Lecture: "Below the Surface: An African American Story in Printmaking"
Curlee Raven Holton, of Easton, PA., is a nationally known printmaker, painter, and arts educator whose work has been exhibited professionally for over twenty-five years in more than thirty-one-person shows and over eighty group shows. Dr. Holton earned his MFA with honors from Kent State University and his BFA. He is the recently retired Executive Director of the David C. Driskell Center for the Study of Visual Arts & Culture of African Americans & the African Diaspora. He is currently the Founding Director and Master Printmaker at Raven Fine Art Editions in Easton, PA. He will speak about his work and the central importance of printmaking in African American art.
