The Westerly Anti-Racism Coalition presents Conversations About African American Art: Talks with Artists and Collectors, three presentations on consecutive Saturday afternoons in February 2024 hosted by the Westerly Library & Wilcox Park, and sponsored by the Washington Trust Foundation. These presentations are designed to encourage conversations addressing ARC’s mission of embracing multiculturalism to address racism to educate, engage, and empower our community in its journey to equity, inclusion, and belonging for all.

Today's Lecture: "Why African American Art?"

Bill and Paula Alice Mitchell, avid local art collectors, will discuss and present slides of their stunning and extensive collection of African American Art and will talk about what brought them to collect art created by African Americans. The Mitchells are Westerly residents with deep roots in the community. They are committed to their mission of sharing their collection with the public.

Learn more about the Mitchells and their collection in “Great awakening: Paula and Bill Mitchell of Westerly and their journey to African-American Art" by Nancy Burns-Fusaro, in The Westerly Sun, August 22, 2022.

Free and open to the public. Please consider making a donation to benefit the Johnnycake Center of Westerly and its charitable mission in our community.
